[Daily dose of Geography]^Paso San Boldo 🇮🇹
📌Paso San Boldo
Paso San Boldo is a mountain road, 17 km long in the Veneto region, which connects the cities of Trieste and Tovano in the north-east of Italy. It was built during the First World War, for the needs of the army. Therefore, it is often referred to as "over 100 days". The prisoners of war, the elderly, women and children of the local population built it. In the final phase of the construction, 1400 workers worked in three shifts to complete this strategically important road.
Despite the extreme topography and demanding that the road be used for the transportation of heavy artillery and military supplies, the rise at any point in this section is no greater than 12%. The road lies on the southern side of the Alps, and the traffic takes place one-way, which is regulated by traffic lights. Speed is limited to 30km / h. It is a particularly interesting section of the length of 700 meters, which is distinguished by serpentines as well as 5 tunnels and 6 bridges.
