Travelling in France - La Rochelle and Ile de Ré. Is it worth visiting?

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

On a weekend me and my friends decided to head over to a city close by the Atlantic. We took a train from Nantes to La Rochelle. Since we were in 5 in total we had a ticket for a group which is pretty cheap. It was 9 euros per person for two days inside Pays de la Loire (A department in France)

As we walked by, we had these beautiful boats parked in the water

We walked towards the road close by the river to see this beautiful castle and its blurry reflection in water.

We headed to a Subway to fill our stomach. A friend in our group suggested that we should visit Ile de Ré. It is an Island close by. This was the blind idea that we all agreed upon. We boarded the bus to the Island and since the Island was pretty big we got down at the nearest stop towards the beach.

It was rather a day with dull cloudy weather. We walked to the beach and it as empty. It was a rocky beach with some dirt as well. The water was pretty far from the edge where the sand was. Hence we decided to walk towards Rochelle hoping to find a beautiful beach. We soon got tired and were frustrated with the poor idea of visiting the Island. After walking for 2kms we decided to head back to La Rochelle.

We were too tired when we reached there. We could barely walk. So we didn't visit the main beach of La Rochelle. It is here where most of the people usually go on a sunny day. Our trip was worthless. We then headed back towards Nantes.

For anyone who would like to visit La Rochelle do head over to the beach nearby and Ile de Ré is the place you should miss.
