A trip to Cocuy's snowy. Part I

Planning the trip

This is an adventure that we had been planning for a long time with my best travel companion and boyfriend Pedro, the plan was simple: motorcycle, raincoats, hats, boots, dark glasses, Guican, early morning, snow, die while we were walking and be happy. The wonder of the internet makes it much easier to obtain information. This is the route we took.

Starting the way

Very early from the cold savannah of Bogota we left riding Esperancita (a Yamaha Fazer 150cc) heading to Guicán, destination from which you can access the natural park where is Ritacuba blanco Peak. We said goodbye to Cundinamarca in a radiant day perfect to enjoy the roads in excellent condition to the north of the country, prepared to cover the journey of 365Km to our destination. After traveling a good part of the way, we stopped to stretch our muscles and looking for some breakfast because our perfect bet got better with a broth of potato with rib, and a coffee to continue full, happy and very awake.
After 5 hours and a half on our motorbike, we stopped at "La Uvita" to sit for a while in the central park, a very quiet place with hedges trimmed around that gave a sophisticated touch to that small remote place

Pending experiences

As we expected to arrive at our destination as soon as possible to make inquiries about how to enter the natural reserve, we could not stop to perform the typical activities of the region; the municipality of San Mateo, neighbor to La Uvita, is a bee honey producer, for a small price of approximately 40,000 COP (like 15 US dollars) per person (even cheaper if you go in a group), you can take a guided tour of the bee-culture while eating a snack you can see and participate of the processes. We will do it someday and I will surely tell you about it.
Here I leave a photograph of a very cool monument that we found at the entrance of Panqueba, a small town where the beekeeping comes from the pre-Columbian era, it represents an indigenous belonging to the Lache people with a honeycomb in their hands

Guicán

At the entrance to Guicán this statue is giving us a welcome, represents the ritual performed by the U'wa Indians in colonial times, who preferred to commit suicide before obeying the colonizers, jumping from a cliff holding a clay pot in the head, while one of them guarded the sure death of the suicide with a bow and arrow.

Starting the afternoon we arrived at the Guicán, cold winds crossed the central park, We were heavy, tired and hungry so We approached a local who very kindly as is typical of the Boyacá's people, told us where we could buy food, so we went to a place that turned out to be wonderful (as expected from Boyaca's gastronomy), offering a delicious meal made up of different meats and tubers I always remember food with great affection, more for such an affordable price :).

Satisfied and with the energy renewed we looked for a place to spend the night, fortunately we found a wonderful hotel house where they made us feel at home, they gave us all the necessary information and for an excellent price we could stay that night there, a recommended and very pleasant place , managed by Oswaldo and his family, +57 3138682814 here I leave the contact number in case someone comes to this magical place.
