Whisby Nature Park
After photographing the swans and cygnets, @clairchanning and I headed out to the Whisby Nature Park. In order to catch the bus we had to resist stopping to take more photos of baby geese!
Thorpe trail
Whilst Whisby has about 5 or 6 nature trails, the heat was so intense today that we only managed one trail, the Thorpe trail, which circles a small lake. Small by my standards anyway, since I live near Loch Ness! We stopped to eat a little picnic of houmous, oat cakes, carrot and radishes.
The hides
The trail also features a couple of bird watching hides so you can watch and take photos of the wildlife without disturbing them. During our visit the wildlife seemed to be a colony of gulls, a swan and some coots. I didn't get close enough to a coot to take a photo, they were in the middle of the lake splashing about. The hides also seemed to have their permanent residents. One had a rather lost looking damsel fly. The other had some spiders...
Boardwalk cafe
This beautiful cafe has a balcony overlooking the lake. We had cake and coffee to the sound of a folk-blues band doing an odd cover of 'Swan Lake' and other tunes. My raspberry and pecan flapjack was delicious! It felt really great having a rest and I wondered if we might feel up for walking another trail, but the heat was still getting to us so we decided to head back into Lincoln.
