Yuryev-Polsky. Russian Provence.

Around Russia

One Saturday morning, I wanted to go somewhere. And not me. Wife pushed in my shoulder: "Let's go somewhere!"
Well, she should not ask twice, let's go. It was necessary something that would not be very far (from 3 to 5 hours by car) and that would be interesting, and that we would not have been there yet. I remembered that recently on Mayak heard a broadcast about Yuryev-Polsky. And what - an option!

Once got into the car - the weather began to deteriorate. Well, it's as always! But we simply can not take it. Food in thought, his wife reads on the Internet about where we're going.
It turned out that the movie "Golden Calf" was shot in Yuriev-Polsky. There, Jursky starred in the role of Ostap, Gerdt, Kuravlev (famouse Russian actors). I really like this film. And what a gorgeous Yevstigneyev there is in the role of Koreiko! Although, Evstigneev is always chic. Well, that means we're heading right!

And on the road unfolds completely cinematic landscapes. Well, just a grimpen quagmire. (This, however, is already their other movie.) Not enough only a dog and a runaway convict.
Further - better. The weather was roaring. We arrived in Yuriev-Polsky. By the way, about the name. It has nothing to do with Poland. Has to do with the founder, he is Yuri Dolgoruky and to the fields. Those. probably it would be more correct to be Yuriev-Polsky, with an emphasis on o in the last syllable.
Wikipedia says there are two versions in the BES, both Polish and Polish.
The year of foundation is 1152. The official coeval of Kostroma.
We arrived at the very center and parked near the monument to Lenin. In general, no matter how someone treated Lenin, I am against breaking monuments. Let it be worth it. This is history. Even the same monument to Dzerzhinsky in Lubyanka. I think it was impossible to break. He had to stand both as a memory and as an admonition. And as horror. But architecturally - he had to stand there, because without him there was a bald patch.

In addition to the monument, in front of us is the fortress. It offers a beautiful view of the Michael-Archangel Monastery.

Fences and housing inside the ramparts look quite fun and confirm everything that is natural, real.

Inside a number of mini-museums. You can climb the bell tower, which also has an exposition.
It's a beautiful view from the bell tower.

Immediately at the entrance to the monastery stands the wooden St. George Church built in 1718. She was brought from the village of Egorye.

A little further elegant St. George's Cathedral. 1234 year. The last Russian temple, finished before the Mongol invasion. Very beautiful carving. It was partially destroyed and at the end of the 15th century it was rebuilt, slightly changing the proportions, but retaining for us.

And next to it there is another temple where restoration work is underway.

We walked a bit in the center. Here, too, there are shopping arcades.

In general, despite the fact that the city is very small, I would recommend it to visit. You can add it as a plus to visiting Vladimir. It produces a very pleasant feeling.
At the exit of the city stopped and made a few frames of spring expanse.

On the way back I decided to go on another road and call on the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl in the sunset sun. About this unique monument, I'll tell you apart, but for now just a couple of photos.

This time, it was not possible to come closer. There was a spill and there was no dry road.

So, we rolled Saturday. The whole crew arrived in a good mood. By the way, I forgot to say. In Yuriev-Polsky we were in a cafe. Nothing special, the usual provincial food, but, for example, borsch, quite tolerable, with meat, turned out to be less than a hundred rubles.
I recommend it as a weekend tour, visiting Yuriev-Polsky and the surrounding area.
