The Riddle of a Buddhist Monk
Buddhist Temple in Phan Thiet, Vietnam
One of the most important rules that a tourist needs to know when visiting a Buddhist temple is a ban on overt clothes. But it does not at all mean that you need to wrap yourself up to your head in cloth, and leave only the nose outside. Not at all. The main thing is completely closed legs and arms below the elbow.
Before entering the temple of the Buddha, do not forget to take off your shoes, this must be done, otherwise the attendants will not let you in. Also in the Buddhist temple there are rooms in which the entrance is open only for the temple attendants, so it is worth to ask the guide or the monk about their whereabouts in advance.
If you are going to sit down near the sacred statues of deities, then in any case do not dare to sit with your feet at the shrine - this is strictly forbidden, as well as turning your back to it. You can not also take pictures with a statue, if you do not want to anger the ministers of the temple and the Buddha.
In Buddhist temples there is a "etiquette" of communication with clergymen. If the monk is engaged in something, do not you dare to distract him, it will be a bad idea. Also, when communicating to the temple attendant, do not touch it, just explain in words what you need and get all the answers to your questions. If your attempts to find an interlocutor among the priests for a long time can not be crowned with success, show patience. Monks may simply not be allowed to talk to you because of a vow of silence or even for any religious reasons.
the answer is perhaps to stay awake or to symbolise awakening/being awake.
Thank you. Maybe you're right. I'll try to read about it somewhere.
