Part II

Walk along the embankment of the city of Romanov
Today's walk is not a historical essay or even an educational article. These are photographs that should create an impression of the audience from the town of Romanov (the current Tutaev).
Here I stand on the left bank of the Volga in the city of Romanov. As you remember, today the city of Tutayev consists of two towns, separated from each other by the Volga River and connected by ferry.
The high left bank is beautiful and not only marked by tourists and photographers, but also by artists. A very famous Russian artist Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev wrote a number of paintings in the early 20th century. One of the most famous is called "Strolling on the Volga".
The photo of the painting I took from here
The painting shows the Resurrection Cathedral, the same one as in the first photo in my article.
Walking along the beach and visiting old houses, I was fascinated by this place. Just have a look at old houses with me.
In addition to beautiful houses, you always see the Volga and its right bank. There stands the Resurrection Cathedral, about which I will talk later.
Summer is green time. The whole city is buried in greenery. That's very beautiful.
Here and there are very picturesque yards. If I were an artist, I would sit down to draw.
On the left bank of the Volga in the city of Romanov many churches. Their spiers are visible from afar and they decorate the views.
In the photo you see the Spaso-Archangelsk church. The Church of Arkhangelsk was built in 1746-1751 by means of parishioners.
The parish of the Savior-Arkhangelsk temple numbered about 1200 souls. After the Resurrection Cathedral it was the richest and most numerous temple, it is not surprising, since its parishioners were rich merchants-Old Believers.
In Soviet times the temple was closed and the printing house was located in it.
We go further and see on the gates of one of the houses such beauty.
We go further and see on the top of the hill one more church. This is the Church of the Holy Trinity. The church was built in 1783.
This temple also had big problems in Soviet times. In the room was a warehouse and after the incubator. Such conditions destroyed the frescoes of the temple.
Around the church used to be a churchyard. Ancient cemetery from the 17th century with a lot of interesting crypts and tombstones. In Soviet times this place was barbarously demolished. Tractors were demolished directly to the Volga. Today, several tombstones and one large crypt survived by a miracle.

This is the outskirts of the city, and I turned back from this church. Ahead of me is the center of Romanov, a monument to Lenin and a fire tower. But it will be the next time.
To be continued...
Just say that I was fascinated by this city, which is quite difficult to name the city. It's all like in the village. I saw people go to the column for water, that almost every house has firewood, which means people are burning wood. This is a real old good Russian village, with its problems. But it is a great pleasure for me, a city man, to be in such a place for one day.
