Russian vastness

You drive along our Russian road. Around the beauty of the native land. Here and there you can see the spiers of churches and bell-towers. Many, of course, in poor condition. Destroyed. But even half ruined, they are alive, they are beautiful. Rushing to the sky. And only one such church is hidden from view, immediately the next one is visible.

I can't explain but I love my county. I love to get back here after visiting old Europe or somewhere.
I understand that a lot of problems are here but It's my countrey like my soul.

For example I drive near broken church. It's very beautiful and it's not only religious structure. It's architectural and spiritual, creative and engineering structure. It was made 150 year ago and I like it. And I like to know something about this building. It's my history.

Some information about this temple.

CHURCH OF NIKOLAI WONDERWORK, 1st third of the 19th century.
It stands on the top of a hill, at the foot of which, along the road, is a rural residential building. It was erected in 1831 from brick and whitewashed masonry. Characteristic for its time, a local rural temple, sustained in the spirit of early classicism, with a number of baroque forms.
The bulk of the octagon type on the quadrangle consists of a powerful, square in plan, double-light lower tier, which carries a very original wide octahedron with a curved dome and an onion-shaped glaze with an interception mounted on a blind cylindrical drum. The broader major facets of the octagon are pushed forward and cut through various windows in three tiers. The altar with gently rounded corners is slightly narrowed in relation to the quadrangle, and the square refectory, on the contrary, is slightly enlarged. Dominant in the voluminous composition is a slender and high bell tower in four tiers with arched openings: three of its quadrangles and a cylindrical ring with a baroque dome cut by round lucarnes are crowned with a thin spire on an octagonal base. The decoration of the facades is somewhat coarsened: the corners of the chetverik and the lower tier of the bell tower are underlined by a wide board rust, at the end of the volumes - greatly simplified entablature, rectangular window openings of the refectory and the lower light of the chetverik are decorated only with window ledges and sandrikami with niches. The side facades of the quadrangular with the round windows of the second light, apparently, were decorated with gable porticoes. The tiers of the bell tower along the edges of the faces are treated with pilasters and semicolumns, the arches are framed by pilasters and archivolts. Unusual only decor of the octagon; it consists of half-columns on the corners, large towns in the cornice and a complex, accentuated relief frame, which unites vertically all three tiers of windows on the main faces: semicircular lower and upper openings and a rectangular middle (similar rectangular windows are placed on the same level in diagonal faces).
The main room with two-stage trompami in the corners - when going to the round inside the octagon - is covered by a dome. The box vault of the altar passes into the trays above the eastern part; in the refectory the vault is a tray, transversely oriented. In the lateral walls of the lower tier of the bell tower with a box vault are arranged small narrow rooms with a staircase to the top in the southern one.

There are so many temples in Russia. Both destroyed and new and rebuilt. I'm not religious, but I really like these buildings.

Temples and ships never spoil the landscape.

Denove ege bona kontribuo. Via unua bildo estas kiel pentraĵo. Bela !
Ankaŭ mi ŝatas viajn pensojn pri via lando. Aparte la citaĵo "Preĝejoj kaj ŝipoj neniam prirabi la pejzaĝon"

I've visited the iconic one in St. Petersburg. But how many "abandoned" ones are there?

A lot... thousands
