Nafplion ... not Napoleon

in #travel7 years ago

When the Corinthian channel was left behind, of which I will certainly make a separate post, since this is a real sight, we found ourselves on the Peloponnese Peninsula. The weather was fine. The sun was hot and I wanted to the sea.

I took the map of Greece and looked for place where I wanted to see. I got the destination - the city of Nafplion. I immediately in my mind renamed him Napoleon. Well! Forward!

Nafplion

Nafplio (Nafplio, Anaplia) (Greek Ναύπλιο, Ανάπλι) is a town on the Peloponnese Peninsula in Greece, the capital of Argolis Nom. It was the first capital of Greece in 1828-1833. One of the most picturesque cities in Greece. The population is 13 822 inhabitants according to the 2001 census. The most important seaport in the east of the Peloponnese.

Approaching the city center, I again experienced problems with parking. Everywhere there are car stalls. But still I found a place to stumble. We were almost out of the car when a local woman advised us to remove the car, since a garbage truck was passing through this place and could shuffle. The argument was more than significant, especially as I saw it with my own eyes in Thessaloniki. In general, I had to make another circle in search of a place closer to the sea, and after a short drive, I suddenly found a large parking lot, almost empty.

We got out of the car and smelled the sea. He mixed with the smell of pines and just dope. It turned out we drove to the beach.

We went down to the water. Everything is organized here. There are cabins for changing clothes and water to wash away the salt.

I touched the water - it was pretty warm for the end of April. Many swam. Here and there, in the clear water, the heads of the swimmers could be seen.

In order not to relax, I decided to walk around the town first and then have a snack. Looking at the map, I realized that the path from the beach encircles the rocks and goes to the port - directly to the city.

On the road we are met by a mini temple. This is Prosconitari. Such houses along the roads, in which there are lamps, icons. I tried to figure out what it was. And, as I understand it, this is a place of pilgrimage. It can be connected with some person, and maybe not. Just a place of worship. Along all roads in huge quantities. And, people are watching them, so that the fire will not go out, which would be beautiful and clean.

We went on this path. I do not know if the pictures convey the feeling when to the left - the blue-green sea, to the right - a rock with cactuses, next to it - pines. The sun is hot and some magical feeling of serene happiness.

Passing along this path along the cliff, we met interesting people - climbers. On the ground next to the insuring I saw a book - Greece for a climber. Collection of routes.

We went around the rock and saw the port. In the center of the bay there is a small fortress. Defense of the port. It looks pretty picturesque.

There was a large airliner in the roadstead. Between him and the lodge the boat circulated. Everything went on as usual. And we were carried away by the smell of food. Along all berths there were small restaurants, one of which we gladly visited.

Nafplion gave us pleasure. Near the port there is a small old quarter. It consists of beautiful small streets, full of restaurants and shops. The usual thing, but very picturesque. Everything is so colorful. By the way, I want to say about trade. It's nice that no one is imposing anything. There are no eastern trends in street trading.

And somewhere in Nafplion, there is a cafe with the most delicious ice cream in Greece. We did not look for it, but just bought a large ice cream and ate it with a contentment.

In general, I recommend everyone to come for a few hours, just relax, maybe take a swim, take a look around and enjoy ice cream.

One more thing. Around the city a large number of orange groves. Here and there are trees and orange oranges balls hang on them. And on the road there are tents and they sell oranges. I drove up to one such tent, and not a little embarrassed the swarthy old Greek, who was surprised to hear not his native speech. He was selling oranges with bags. For 4 euros - a bag. I say give a couple oranges. Here's 1 euro. And he asks - where are we from? And as I learned that from Russia - began to pour oranges in the package. He poured a full one. We then ate the oranges until the end of the trip.
