Privolzhsk city

In Russian laguage name Privolzhsk means that this place located near Volga river. But it's about 15 km from this place to Volga. In this case the name of the city was created from the name of town-forming factory.

This place has been known since 1485 as the village of Yakovlevskoe Bolshoye. In the 16th century. belonged to the Kostroma Ipatievsky Monastery, in the 17th century Boyars Sheremetev, princes Odoyevsky and Kurakin.

In the 18-19 centuries. the village of Yakovlevskoye - a major center for the production of linen cloth with 3 large factories, incl. factory of S.D. Sidorov (founded in 1845, now Yakovlevsky Flax Factory).

The city of Privolzhsk from 26.10.1938 was formed from the village of Yakovlevskoye and neighboring factory settlements (Rogachevo, Vasilievo). The name is not related to the position on the Volga (up to about 15 km), but with the presence of the flax factory Privolzhskaya Kommuna. The Yakovlevskoye settlement since 6.06.1925.

By the way, in Privolzhsk live about 15 000 people. It's very small city in Russia. I live in Kostoma (it's not far from Privolzhsk and in Kostroma live about 260 000 people.)

It's always nice for me to drive through this small town. It has a small monastery with a beautiful bell tower. This is the Nikolsky Convent. The bell tower rises above the city. That's very beautiful.

This weekend I again drove through this town and decided to finally stop, get out of the car and take some photos. I walked away from the road and, passing by small private houses, went out into the open space to see the monastery.

The women's monastery in the town of Privolzhsk was formed on the site of the former parish community of the village of Bolshoy Yakovlevskoye. The age of the village is measured by many centuries. There are archaeological data confirming the existence of the settlement in this place already in the XII century. In April 1998, the St. Nicholas Convent was officially approved and blessed with the decision of the Holy Synod.

The view is very beautiful and a real Russian provincial.
