Jodhpur - The Blue City, Why Should you Tour #INDIA VI

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Jodhpur - The Blue City, also familiar as The Sun City

Jodhpur in the Thar desert is the second largest city in the north western state of Rajasthan! It is nicknamed as The Blue city because of the large number of houses found painted blue! Also named as The Sun City because it experiences bright and sunny weather through out the year!

Jodhpur was founded in the year 1459 by Rao Jodha (28 March 1416 - 6 April 1489), an Indian ruler for the then state Mandore, today called Rajasthan and the city earned its name after him.

The former palace Mehrangarh Fort is a now a museum quite famous among the tourists!
This fort should be familiar to most people because a few scenes from the famous Batman series, 'The Dark Knight Rises' is shot here!

The traditions and culture of this city is beyond everything you have seen! Take a look at the folk dancers exhibiting the magnificent old lifestyle at the well known Marwar festival celebrated by the city, held every year in the month of September/October in honor of the unforgotten heroes and rulers of Rajasthan!
