Welcome back, readers! This is Part 2 of the species of birds at Coney Island Park. I saw another signage of birds while exploring the park. Let's dive in!

Yellow-bellied Prinia

Prinia flaviventris

The Yellow-bellied Prinia has a grey head, light yellow body, white throat and a short white brow. Its back and tail are olive, and its tail is white-tipped. It feeds on insects and is commonly found in tall grasslands with scattered shrubs. The male produces a cat-like meowing call.

Common Flameback

Dinopium javanense

Growing up to about 30cm, the Common Flameback has a golden yellow mantle and wing lining, white underparts with a black-laced scale pattern and a red rump. Its bold black and white face pattern add to its striking appearance. The male bird has a red crown and crest, unlike the female which has a black crown that is streaked with white. It can often be spotted hunting in pairs for insects and their larvae in gardens, parks, and wooded areas.

Laced Woodpecker

Picus vittatus

The Laced Woodpecker has a light olive green neck and throat, and a black stripe with fine whitish streaks that resembles a moustache. The male has a red crown and nape while the female has a black crown and nape. Found usually alone or in pairs, this bird lives on the forest edge as well as in mangroves and parks where it looks for insects.

Blue-throated Bee-eater

Merops viridis

The adult Blue-throated Bee-eater has a bluish green body with a dark chestnut crown and a black eye-stripe. Measuring about 23cm, it has a bluish tail with streamers and bluish throat. Found in open and urban areas, marshes, grasslands and forests, this bird feeds in flight. Its diet includes dragonflies, large flies and bees.

The next part will be the last part! Signing off! Sejuk!
