Promoting Bohol: The Blood Compact

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

I've seen tons of monuments larger, nicer, greater than this but I find it different and special from any other monuments, so I'm making it "a thing" to share. When talking about histories of different places, the story behind this monument is some kind of special (for me). Also, I have only seen this once so having a picture of it is necessary for me. 😬😁

Monuments?

Monuments are built inorder to commemorate a person or event which has become relevant to a social group as a part of their remembrance of historic times by the public.

This Blood Compact or "The Sandugo" monument is located at Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. It is made up of metal and the statues are fairly intricate. I was not so amazed seeing those but I find it interesting, enough for a quick shot and enough for reading the short description below the statues.

What is Sandugo all about?

Bohol Blood Compact Site is located in Barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. This particular site was made in honor of a very important event in the Philippine history done between Sanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Rajah Sikatuna the chieftain of Bohol to seal their friendship as part of the tribal tradition. This is considered as the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and Filipinos.

"Sandugo" is a Visayan word which means "one blood". The Sandugo is depicted in both the provincial flag and the official seal of the government in Bohol. It also features the image of the blood compact. The top of the seal explains the history behind the Sandugo event that occurred in Bohol, the fleet and the location where the Spaniards anchored and the place where the treaty was conducted which was dated on March 16, 1565.

We did not take too long staying there, it's just some kind of a pitstop, there isn't much to see except for the monument alone. Summing it up, comparing it to other pitstops, it is a cultural pitstop and that makes it more unique!

You.? what are your favorite monuments visited? I'd love to know your experiences! 😉
