The Kungur cave

The inhabitants of Perm territory consider that the mysterious Kungur ice cave is the main attraction of this region. The total length of cave reaches 5700 meters. The attraction is located on the outskirts of Kungur-town. The main entrance to the cave is in Ice Mountain. Originally, the entrance was very narrow and filled with huge blocks of ice, so it was artificially widened and ennobled.

The Kungur cave contains 48 grottoes and 70 lakes. The largest is the Geographic’s Grotto (50,000 m3). The largest lake has an area of 1460 m2. The lake water is clean and transparent, depth up to 5 meters. Ice mountain and Kungur cave are united by internal natural pipes and external funnels of karst in amount of 146. Because of this formations, the air in the cave is always clean. There are rodents and bats but they do not bother tourists. They try to escape from the hustle and bustle.

The gypsum had been dissolved by water many years. Therefore, there was formed magnificent drawings on the stone, fantastic labyrinths, ice decorations on the vaults, sculptural compositions of stalactites and stalagmites. Merchants used it as a refrigerator, before the cave became interesting to tourists. The chunks of ice on the walls do not melt even in the summer.

The richest decoration in the cave can be seen in the winter season. But in the summer it is pleasant to get in out of the heat so you would want to spend a long time and looking at the decorations were created by nature.

The infrastructure is fairly well developed there. There is you can walk, have a coffee or a snack. In the cave, there is a corner with an unusual highlight, where lovers organize wedding ceremonies and give a pledge of allegiance to each other in a mysterious atmosphere
