No, they are not scams. Some ppl make a living out of those machines as they are very good at getting the prizes. They get the prizes with small amount of money and then they sell the prizes to shops in Akihabara with higher prices. That's why there are many those prizes available in those shops. If you only want to get those prizes, it may be cheaper to just buy one instead of playing those machines. But I always like the playing processes.... that's why I wasted lots of money on those machiens. But at the end, you will get the prizes.
