One of the specialties of the region, is this pink Makgeolli (막걸리). It's delicious, and goes well with the other items on the menu, like fried fish, and various hot pot stews.

Now that you're stuffed, and a little inebriated from the Makgeolli, you're ready to start traveling the road. I will tell you now, if you aren't able to walk long distances, then don't expect to walk the whole way, its LONG, and uphill on a muddy old road. You'll still be able to make it to the major stops though! Just maybe not the top.

Upon entering, you first come across a couple of monuments. Take a gander, and read the signs. Or just move along on your adventu.

With that little bit of history out of the way, you are ready to pass through the gates! The gates are the main attraction to the road. There are three main checkpoints, or gates (beginning, middle, top of the mountain) that are along the road. They acted as a defense, and a checkpoint for security reasons, with so many people passing through, or maybe if you had to much makgeolli?

A lot of tourist make it to the first gate, as it is the easiest and closest one.

If you keep walking along the road, you will come to a old style Korean village.

Congratulations! You've made it to the top! The third gate! It is unlikely that many people will be there to share in your joy, unless of course, you brought a long travel buddies. The last gate is pretty big, and similar to the first. Upon appearance it would seem it was harder to pass through this gate, as it had thicker walls, and a heavier door.
