Travel to Beijing (1) - Wangfujing

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Being a good son, when I found that my dad wanted to visit Beijing, I planed the trip at once! Finally, we started the journey this Wednesday!

If you had come to China before, you may know that the flights of China always delay and delay. This time we met the delay. The plane of 1245 was delayed to 1430 and we were sitting in the plane doing nothing. But it’s lucky already as the delay was less than two hours! It’s already 6pm when we arrived Beijing and we quickly rushed to the hotel. It was 8pm

So we could go nowhere on the first day and we just walked around. We were staying at Wangfujing. It means Prince’s Mansion Well in Chinese. It is one of the famous spot in Beijing and I think most of you know it if you visited Beijing before. It was located beside the Tiananmen. Wangfujing started development around 1000 years ago. In the Ming dynasty (1417 AD), ten princes’ mansions were built here so the street was then called Wangfu Street (Prince’s Mansion Street). Later in Qing dynasty (1905), the government renamed the street in Beijing. They found a well in the street and then called it Wangfujing. However, because of the Cultural Revolution, all the minions were destroyed.

We had our dinner at a restaurant selling Goubuli buns. Goubuli means “dogs ignore” and it is one of the most famous food in China. There is a story: In the late 19th century, there was a man with nickname “Gouzhai” (dog). He had a shop selling steamed baozi (bread with meat). His baozi was very delicious and popular so he was very busy and had no time to chat with his customers. So the customers started to say that “Gouzhai doesn’t talk to people”. And it’s the origin of the name Goubuli (dogs ignore people).

After dinner, we visited the Wangfujing Snack Street. It is now a tourist spot of Beijing, but the price also meet the standard of a tourist spot haha. In the street there is a well.

Yeah! After food we back to the hotel and slept. So see you the next day!
