The Hejiang Fawang Temple was first built during the Song and Yuan dynasties and was later destroyed by a large fire. In the third year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1738), it was completely rebuilt. The temple building is supported by more than 510 whole stone Danxia stone pillars, earning the reputation of being the "number one stone worker in the world".

Fawang Temple is not an ordinary temple, but a Buddhist academy. During the nine years from the establishment of the Buddhist Academy in 1941 to its closure, nearly a thousand outstanding Buddhist monks were trained, providing temples in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou and other regions with many qualified monks with strict discipline and extensive knowledge.
This place is suitable for hiking and sightseeing during weekends and holidays, as well as for meditation and Buddha worship, and for peaceful rest. The surrounding air is also excellent, relieving the tension of the week and washing the soul.
