In Europe we are are used to just distribute forwarding our things to some transport company, which brings it from point A to B. But how does this work in other countries? How do people distribute there? To find out more we picked Cambodia to get an example and found out that people there are amazingly creative transporting things.

The Bicycle  – an irreplaceable means of transport for a lot of people in Asia.

In Europe the bicycle is often used for a nice excursion enjoying the nature on weekends or maybe to get to work and buy some groceries at the supermarket during the week. But for a real transport we don´t really use the bike - we would rather take the car keys. Obviously there are exceptions like profesional bicycle couriers, but as I said that are exceptions.

In Asia on the other hand, in most of the countries the bicycle is an irreplaceable meins of transportation for things of any kind. People get incredible creative in how to use their bike more efficiently or also converting their bike for a better use.

So the first thing that somebody notices getting to an Asian country is that bikes are not only used to get around, but most of the time used for transportation.

A lot of people cannot imagine their lives without a bicycle! People get really creative loading their bikes as you can see on the left picture. Not everyone´s got a bike for transportation. 

That´s why they discover other methods to transport their things from A to B. 

What most of the people know from pictures taken in Africa, you can also find in Asia - so also for example the transportation of goods on their head. This kind of transportation has tradition in a lot of countries and is very efficient for a lot of things.

It is healthier for the peoples´ spine and back! It is a fact: if you try to put your backpack on the head you will notice really quick that your back feels better. But until we have the same skills in transportation with our heads it will take a lot of time and practice. Depending on their experience they are able to carry up to 60 kg on their head. A lot of people use that skill to work as an walking courier. Like that they provide for their living.

Sometimes when the goods are too heavy for their heads people use a goods van as help. A lot of times these carriages are simply constructed - often it´s just two bike wheels connected with a wooden plate.

A lot of Asians use this kind of carriage on a daily basis selling their fruits directly from their walking through the streets. This kind of sale is basically what we know from people selling ice cream on the streets and parks of Europe.

It doesn´t mean that you are able to transport less not having a car!

But not just bicycles and head transport are often seen in Asia. Also the motored two-wheeler are really trendy. - As you can see on the impressive picture below.

This man for example is not only taking her wife and small stuff. He also found a way to load 200 boxes. If now somebody asks how many Smarts it would take to transport the same amount of boxes this would be the answer: A Smarts´ trunk has space for 5 of these boxes. Therefor you would need 30 Smarts to transport what one moped is transporting on that picture. Now the question is, who is the better protector of environment?

The Answer: People in other cultures often use the smallest free space to transport things for others!... We on the other hand are driving too often with an empty trunk... so are our actions really that advanced or do we have to change our mind?
