Commentary on the “snowflake” insult
I like the notion of insulting people as a “snowflake” because it aptly describes everyone in very basic terms. Scientifically, all snowflakes are formed with the same pattern. As a snowflake spirals down to earth, every impact it has with wind, debris, or other snowflakes slowly forms the snowflake we eventually see hitting the ground.
Likewise, humans are inherently born the same: they are formed in the womb to be a human. As the human enters the world and meets hardships, joys, and other humans, the human’s perception of the world around us slowly changes as well. This is why it is completely understandable when someone born one gender feels they are more comfortable living another gender. Transgender people are humans born with anatomy that doesn’t correlate with whom they are and discriminating them for being transgender is wrong because it inherently denies their human right to exist as they deserve to want to exist.
Likewise, you can cross-apply this to the quality a human has being a reflection of the intents and impacts they have on others. Everyone is intrinsically born contempt, indifferent to the world. As the person gains negative experiences, they slowly become a negative person and reflectively makes negative decisions. As the person embraces positive experiences, they become a more positive person and reflectively makes more positive decisions.
When judging the right and wrongness of a person’s action, it is important to factor in both impact and intent the person had on another person. A “reformed” citizen is then someone who has internalized the negative impacts their actions have and intends to create actions that guide towards future positive outcomes.
