Stuck in Traffic in Los Angeles, Houston, Boston? Do what Billy Joel says.

The worst traffic in the US can be found in Los Angeles, Boston, Houston, New York, Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta and Honolulu.

If you must contend with traffic on a daily basis, you've got to wonder, how much longer can you put up with spending hours in slow-moving traffic (when moving at all) trying to get to work, going to school, getting to a doctor's appointment, etc.?

And the problem is getting worse in may big cities, as more and more people move to the cities for jobs and other opportunities. And in many cases, such as Los Angeles and Honolulu, expansion of interstates and highways is restricted by geography. There simply are limitations how much capacity can be added.

Unfortunately, it's not so easy to pick up and leave, if you don't want to leave family and friends behind. If you don't want to give up a high-paying or stable job. So, unless you're willing and able to break the bonds of your geographic location, you're pretty much stuck.

However, if you're open minded, and wanting to break free, you might want to listen to Billy Joel's 1977 Top-40 hit "Movin' Out," also known as "Anthony's Song." As the lyrics go...

"Mama Leone left a note on the door, She said,Sonny, move out to the country... workin' too hard can give you a heart attack, you oughta know by now. Who needs a house out in Hackensack? Is that all you get for your money?"

Of course, many people love the big city - the entertainment, restaurants, night clubs and many other things that you just can't find in the country - as in less-populated towns and communities.

But, at least today, with the Internet, there are more opportunities for people to work from home. So if you're good at coding, building and hosting websites, doing telephone support, selling stuff on sites like ebay, then maybe Movin' Out is something to think about.

I especially love the part of the song where the cop on the beat (Sergeant O'Leary) works part time at a bar, and his goal is to trade in his Chevy for a Cadillac....

"...and if he can't drive with a broken back, at least he can polish the fenders."

"It seems such a waste of time."

"If that's movin' up, then I'm movin' out!"
