Velikden - Bulgarian Easter
Today is a great day in Bulgaria. Very great. This is evident from the way the whole country prepared for it and how the whole country looks today. I hope everyone guessed that we are talking about Easter, but only here it is called Velikden.
Bulgaria is a secular state, but religious holidays such as Christmas and Easter, here are public holidays. So on Velikden give 4 days to rest. What do you think is happening in Sofia? It is empty! Anyone who can tear their claws out of the city. Who is in his village, who is abroad. In Sofia, since lunch Thursday there is no one, empty streets, transport, shops, but everything is decorated, glitters and shines, everything works and everything is yours 😊 This is very funny. It happens in summer, more precisely in the last two summer months.
This year was a whole vacation: from April 26 to May 6 - 11 days.
April 26 - the day off in honor of Easter, 27 - Saturday, 28 - Sunday (Easter), 29 - day off in honor of Easter. May 1 holiday in honor of Labor Day 😄
And since on May 6 in Bulgaria there is also an official day off - the Day of the Bulgarian Army, some particularly tricky (almost all) will ask for May 2 and 3 to count for leave and leave somewhere to warm the belly on April 25 and return on May 6 in the evening.
Velikden
Easter in Bulgaria is called Velikden and it is celebrated here as well as in Russia, with some differences. For example, Bulgarians do not know what curd Easter is and they are very surprised when I treat them. Congratulate each other: Christ is risen! - Truly risen!
Yesterday, a fire of grace came to the church of Alexander Nevsky, and after midnight, lights flashed through the city - people carried candles from the temple home.
Kulich here is called kozunak, but I myself do not bake and do not eat them at all. Because I do not digest bread.
We traditionally paint eggs and make cheese Easter cake. Because it is tasty and beautiful
Curd Easter
I have no special recipe for cottage cheese Easter: I just take cottage cheese (in Bulgaria, Izvara) and put all the most delicious things there. As a rule, it is butter, nuts, raisins or other dried fruits, cream or condensed milk, grated lemon, vanilla, quail eggs and powdered sugar. Then I put all this into layers in the form and send it to the refrigerator. I never bake Easter, which is why I do not put chicken eggs in it. By the way, at Easter you can still put gelatin or pectin, and then it will be better to keep the shape and beautifully cut. And I paint it with food dyes.
I give all forgiveness,
And in the Resurrection of Christ,
I betray my forehead, I kiss you
And not betrayed - in the mouth.
