The case against anonymous developers in the world of cryptocurrency

in #trading8 years ago

The first excuse most scammers (or the naive) will give is; "What about Satoshi, he was anonymous!" True, but as soon as the situation became difficult he abandoned Bitcoin and kept his stash. We don't know if he/she/they are alive or dead, or if that massive amount of BTC could one day crash the markets. Satoshi brought us Bitcoin and we love it, but being anonymous was not an advantage for us buyers, just a massive risk.

These anon devs will also almost always have a new accounts on Bitcointalk, while they have experience forking and making coins. They will always lie and say they just started, or that they're being anonymous to protect themselves from their government. Lies. They are being anonymous because you would run screaming if you knew they made 25 other scam projects that they abandoned. That is the truth.

They harm all of us. They scam the new, the innocent, they harm honest devs and teams simply by existing and leaching the goodwill earned by others . Anyone buying and supporting their projects supports scammers and only encourages more of them. By supporting them you are also diluting good projects like STEEM and others. There are a few exceptions with anon devs that are not bad people, but 9/10 are out to get you, so be aware and best to just avoid.

Lastly, since I stopped buying anything from Anon devs, I rarely lose trading and have a much better standard of living. I feel better supporting honest devs, and by simply avoiding anon devs, I make my own life, and the lives of the good devs, teams, and communities better. So raise the bar, stop supporting scammers that have likely scammed us all before. Don't call honest project scams like some of the dimwit trolls in the polo troll box, call the scams scams. Words matter, meaning matter. Mostly, just avoid the anon devs, they are not helping us at all, and they just look at us like money to harvest.

You make some good points, but the threat from governments is very real and should not be underestimated. You're talking about taking power away from the state here. You think that will just down without bloodshed?

How many do you think are honestly in danger from the government, compared to how many are milking noobs into fake ICOs and all sorts of scams? How much should we project the anon devs compared to their victims?

threat of gov is real if they're doing highly illegal stuff with the funds or not reporting substantial amounts of income at tax time that is there choices. But thinking the gov is going to throw them in jail or have them killed for creating something that now already exists, is running, probably has more than one person having clearance to update/maintain the code... and the fact that someone else would just make the exact same thing again no matter what they did it would be a losing battle. I think the elites will try to work within the boundaries of this new technology and work with it to try and maintain dominance. Fighting the future is usually a losing battle and I am sure the elites are smart enough to have realized that by now. And if not, then I personally believe it is better (and more substantial in the bigger picture) to stand beside what you believe in rather than to try to prop it up from the shadows

I totally agree. When anon developers make new coins, it makes me nervous to invest in their project. I mean we have come way past the anon shatoshi days, and today people want transparency.

the fact is devs who have their reputations on the line have a lot more to lose... that alone is a big enough difference for me

Not all anon devs are scammers, and not all non anon devs are honest. The odds are greatly against you if you bet on anonymous devs is all. They can vanish at a drop of a hat. I have been lied to so many times, if they are writing, I assume they are lying.

for sure and we have deff seen that and will see it again from people and even companies... that can't stop themselves from the old "dump and run" or they lose sight of the potential of their project and ditch it, lol but seriously what would the ratio be for "in the light dev" projects Vs "anon dev" projects ditching/dump'n running ?? probably like 1 for every 100 anon ditched coins.
