Namık İsmail is known more extensively. This painting depicts a woman's figure in the Ottoman elite with a unique western-style dress and a back-filled bookcase, and a woman who reads a book from the upper layer after the westernization period. The sign on the floor, vase, coffee table, pillows, sadness, thoughtful appearance on the face of the woman, objects in the picture were selected according to the emotional atmosphere of the picture. The pastel tones used spread the atmosphere of the emotion to the whole picture. The light in the picture focuses on the woman's face, bringing this woman's soulful personality to the fore. The woman's hand is used in the same light, contributing to the delicate stance.

about Namik Ismail

Namık İsmail was born in Samsun in 1890 as an intermediary of three children of a Circassian family who migrated from the Caucasus to Samsun and then to Istanbul. The three siblings are interested in art since the young age, perhaps because their father is a calligrapher.

In some sources, the name of the artist is Yeğenoğlu, and in some sources it is referred to as Sebük. Yeğenoğlu surname originates from Yeğenzade, the artist's family nickname. Sebük is the surname that the artist has taken with the surname law. But the artist did not use both, his paintings signed as Namık İsmail. The three siblings may be interested in art, starting from a small age, perhaps because their father is a calligrapher. His brother, Hüsnü Yeğenoğlu, is also a member of the artillery school, which he studied for three years. He then studied in Germany in 1907 for three years. Her sister Ulviye Yeğenoğlu Keskin goes to the conservatory, taking piano lessons and French lessons.
