In the early morning hour of the next day, she brought him the most splendid armor a hero had ever wore. Achilles' eyes shone with this divine gift and immediately called the Danaers to announce that the quarrel with Agamemnon had been forgotten and that from now on they would again be at the side of the Achaeans in the battle. Jubilation broke out there among both the Danaern and Achaeans, and Agamemnon immediately shook his hand. Briseis, the reason for the dispute, returned to her rightful master.

Soon the whole earth was roaring under the footsteps of the two armies, and a terrible fight sounded over the plain as the Trojans met the Achaeans. Achilles looked full of revenge for the hated Hector. Like terrified animals, the Trojans fled before raging and retreated to the gates of their city. Only Hector remained steadfast and opposed him to a duel.

Terrible was the sight of the onrushing Achilles in his radiant armor. His face wildly distorted, he threw words sneering at Hector. Then the Hector suddenly became frightened and he fled from the Peliden. Like a hare he struck hooks and tried to tire his pursuer. Achilles hunted around Troy three times, and each time he approached the protective gates, Achilles cut him off. Eventually, however, his courage returned and Hector turned to fight.

He asked Achilles for an honorable fight, in which the victor should not mistreat the defeated and leave his body for commendable burial to the families. But Achilles called to him "Nothing of contracts! Can a covenant be between lion and man or reign between wolf and lamb concord? "And already he hurled his lance at Hector. He was able to dodge and threw his spear against Achilles, who broke his shield. With raised swords, both invaded each other and soon Hector died of the divine power of the Greeks. Dying, he asked him to give his body to the father. But Achilles knew no mercy on the murderer of his friend, and tied the lifeless body to his chariot, and then dragged him in a savage hunt around the walls of Troy. What a gruesome sight this was for the unfortunate parents.

Hector's corpse lay buried in the camp of the Greeks, while Achilles made a magnificent funeral in honor of his friend Patroclus. During the night, the grumpy King Priam appeared in the tent of Achilles with rich presents. He flung himself at Pelion's feet and implored him to surrender his son. Moved by the words of the broken old man, Achilles softened, and so he gave him the corpse of the hector washed and anointed. Under the protection of the god Hermes, he left the camp of the Greeks unnoticed with his precious load.
