Figures of Turkish Mythology

Kayra Han

Kayra Han is the creating God in Turkish and Altai mythology. He is also called Kayýr Han. He is the Head god. He is the greatest and the most prominent of the gods. Everything is created by him. He is has absolute superiority. Sit on the 17th floor of the witness. He has created other gods. In this sense, when compared to other gods, the attitude of one angel who fulfills his orders or repeats his duties will not be wrong. However, there is no angel or similar concept in pre-Islamic Turkish culture. This result can only be achieved by comparison. Kayra Han determines the fate of the universe. The direction of goodness is great. After he created the earth he planted a nine-branch tree (pine or beech). This tree is the living tree "Uluğ Kayın" which connects the place and the chest. Nine people, who were the predecessors of humans, descended from the branches of this tree and nine tribes (nine races) emerged from the line of these people.

Tengere (God) Kayra Khan is respected as a high-ranking god in the mythology of some Siberian societies, such as the Altais and the Ostyaks and Rubies. It is shown as the creator of the world in the myth of the creation of altars. In this legend, Kayra Khan also has the task of being the god of the underworld as punishment for the Erlik Khan, who is known as the god of the whole underground treasure. Sometimes it is equivalent to Göktanrı. He has three sons, Ülgen, Mergen and Kızagan. Ulgen, Goodness and mercy, that is, Cemalini; Kagan, anger and retribution; Mergen represents wisdom and sovereignty. He has a magnificent presence. Concrete qualities are not much done, but the abstract direction is more focused. There are sources defined as Mother and Ancestor (both masculine and feminine, neutral). He is not portrayed much in human form. He passes winter on the earth and the summer in the sky. His lightning strikes in different colors. The person who is hit by his lightning becomes a shaman.

In some western sources he is called Kuara. In this case it seems to be related to the Urartula's Kuera. Bulgarians also have this name. There are opinions suggesting that Kuğara (Koğara) is different gods with Kayra Khan. In addition, Kayra Khan and Kara Khan are described as the same figure, but this is a phonological but common mistake. Because the word Kara has more negative meanings. Kara Khan is a different mythological personality (Oguz Han's father). Kara Han should not be confused with.
