I guess buddhist and yogi's in general choose mountains due to some kind of synergy thru earthly energy. This synergy once established within ourselves provided this purifying effect - body and soul. Realising that your life has a consequence in the global plan of thing by connecting with the Cosmic/Heavenly consciousness provides that validation.
