Braille Alfabesi nedir?
Braille alfabesi, görme engelli insanların okuyabilmesi için 1824 yılında
Fransız Louis Braille tasarlanmış kabartma baskı sistemidir. Sayfa üstünde
parmakları hareket ettirerek okunan bu yazı stili çeşitli kabartma simgelerden
oluşmaktadır.
Louis Braille gözünü incittiğinde üç yaşındaydı. Gözü enfeksiyon kaptı,
bu enfeksiyon diğer gözüne de sirayet edince görme duyusunu kaybetti.
On yaşında Paris’te Ulusal Görme Engelli Çocuklar Enstitüsü’ne gitti.
Louis Braille, burada sayfa üzerine basılmış kabartma harflerle okumayı
öğrendi. Daha sonra Louis Braille, kağıt üzerinde kabartma noktalardan
oluşan ve ordu tarafından telgraf mesajları göndermede kullanılan sistemi
keşfetti. Askeriyenin kullandığı bu sistemi geliştirdi ve bugün Braille alfabesi
denen sistem ortaya çıktı.
