Alkölün DNA`ya Doğrudan Zarar Verebildiğine Dair Kanıtlar Bulundu
Araştırmacılar bir fareye seyreltilmiş alkol verdiler ve ardından da hasarı ölçmek için kromozom çözümlemesi ve DNA dizilimini yaptılar. Asetaldehitin, bu hücrelerin içindeki DNA’ya zarar vererek onu kalıcı şekilde değiştirebildiğini buldular.
Araştırmacılar, asetaldehitin biriktiği zaman hücreleri nasıl etkilediğini görmek amacıyla fareleri genetik olarak değiştirerek kök hücrelerinin, enzimlerden biri olan ALDH2’yi üretmesini önleyen bir mutasyon kullandılar.
Yetersiz ALDH2’ye sahip farelerin hücrelerinde, normal ALDH2 üretimine sahip kontrol grubu farelerine göre dört kat daha fazlaya kadar hasar vardı.
Araştırma takımı bir sonraki çalışmasında alkol tüketiminin neden bazı kanserler ile ilişkiliyken diğerleriyle ilişkili olmadığını bulmak istiyor.
Önceki araştırmalar pozitif bir görüntü sunmamış ve hafif tüketimde dahi ağız, boğaz, gırtlak, yemek borusu, karaciğer, meme ve bağırsak kanseri tehlikesinin ve ölüm oranının artmasıyla ilişkili bağlantılar ortaya çıkarmıştı.
