Today I want to share our country's one of the main industry. Last weekend I spent more time with tourist attraction place name called "Sigiriya." It is clear that the tourism industry is having a direct impact on the world economy as we look at the current world. This is common in Sri Lanka too. Therefore it has a direct and indirect effect on the economy of the country.

What are the reasons for tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka?

To see the beauty of nature.
For Ayurvedic treatment
To view cultural items.
Visit Historic Places.
For educational purposes.
For business purposes.
For Seminars

Relative minds are friendly. Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka have increased due to these reasons. Let us examine how this growing tourism industry contributes to the regional development of Sri Lanka.

Many tourists come to Sri Lanka with the intention of enjoying the sun, the beach, the forests, the cultural features etc. Therefore, the impact on the people of the rural areas of Sri Lanka will be huge. Hotels, shopping malls, internal aviation, etc., have emerged in the tourism industry. This has created a wide variety of jobs.

Similarly, the growth of tourism in Sigiriya, Yala and Pinnawala has increased the infrastructure facilities in those areas. In addition, the impact on the surrounding areas, such as highways, water, electricity and other infrastructure facilities, has also increased. Therefore, the relationship between rural and urban areas has increased.

Furthermore, a growing number of self-employment opportunities have been created due to the increased tourist attraction. Food, jewelry, handicrafts and batik products have created many jobs. The entire economy of the country is directly affected by tourism. Tourism is locally important because it creates many direct and indirect employment opportunities. It is evident from the above facts that this industry also contributes to local development.

However, there are many disadvantages associated with this industry. Unauthorized constructions in places of cultural value to increase the income of some people are ruined. Also, there is a drastic decrease in tourist arrivals during the weather, disasters and wars. This is a major disadvantage for the earners of this industry. Similarly, the higher prices of commodities in areas where the majority of tourists live is higher than that of other areas and the indigenous people in these areas are adversely affected. This industry has created many informal and illegal jobs such as prostitution. This will not only ruin the country's culture and civilization, but will greatly affect the spread of social diseases. Coral reefs are threatened with extinction and the sale of many endangered species of plants and animals to tourists is an adverse event.
