NIGERIA: ARCHIVAL REFERENCE OF A PAST HERO- Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

in #tour6 years ago (edited)

One very day towards the middle of the previous year, I started a quest to fish out the abandoned uncompleted building of the Late Chief MKO Abiola here in Abeokuta, Ogun, South-West, Nigeria. Then, I decided to take a tour- a tour to locate the building. The intention of the Chief was to make the structure his countryhome since his political career in the country would always take him round the country on a daily basis.

Finally, I got the path leading to the long anticipated structure at Oba Kàrunwi Avenue, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, Ogun, South- West, Nigeria. Low and behold! It was a mighty structure located on a large expanse of land, about an acre of land.
I'd took photo shots, but somehow I lost other photographs but I had one reserved which describes the frontage of the structure and its closest location on the Google map.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ICON

Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola was born on the 24th August, 1937 in his home land, Abeokuta. He was a businessman, publisher, politician and a philanthropist. He was also a man who embraced polygamy with six known wives and other concubines, and that automatically made a father of many children.

In his political career, he set a record for a democratic form of governance in Nigeria, he fought for this to the very last of his blood and that made him a martyr of democracy in Nigeria.
He was arrested following a presidential election in Nigeria which he was assumed that he won on the 12th June, 1993. Every June 12 in Nigeria is noteworthy and commemorated as a public holiday in honour of the hero.

Chief MKO Abiola died on the 7th July, 1998 at age 60. Following his death came quite a reasonable number of honors, a stadium, tertiary institution and a major road named after him here in his homeland, other national and international honor also followed.
