EXCLUSIVE: NYC Terrorist Arrested with EXPLOSIVES days before Helicopter Crash
A SUSPECTED Islamist Terrorist was arrested with explosives in Manhattan, NY on Thursday, just days before a helicopter crash that killed one, TR News can reveal.
Law enforcement sources revealed that the suspect Ashiqul Alam, 22, was arrested by undercover agents on Thursday, and our source says that Alam was arrested with explosives on his way to Times Square to carry out a suspected terror attack.
The arrest was covered in the New York Times; however, they omitted any reference to explosives and claimed the incident was 'not terror-related.'
A law enforcement source relayed to TR News that the suspect "was arrested with explosives on his way to Times Sq".
The source, who we cannot reveal to protect his or her identity also added that they thought the Helicopter Crash that took place yesterday morning just short of Manhattan's 7th Ave was possibly "linked to the terror plot" that was foiled by feds just days before.
"When De Blasio publicly states that it isn't you can be sure that it is, it's no coincidence with the arrest last week." added the source.
"Two incidents in just a couple of days is no coincidence at all" and highlighted the significance of the location of the crash, that was just blocks away from Trump Tower.
The NYT reported that Alam, who comes from Bangladesh and now lives in New York's Queens district, was taken into custody after "trying to buy two Glocks with defaced serial numbers from an undercover officer, officials said."
The NYT claimed that the suspect "posed no immediate threat" quoting unnamed officials.
Alam was formally charged on Friday in a Federal Court in Brooklyn. He was not charged with terrorism-related crimes.
The NYPD told CBS News that the helicopter crash-landed on the roof but did not go into the building. The weather was foggy and rainy at the time.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo claimed the incident was not terror-related. "There was a helicopter that made a forced landing, emergency landing, or landed on the roof of the building for one reason or another," Cuomo said.
"There was a fire that happened when the helicopter hit the roof. ... The fire department believes the fire is under control. There may be casualties involved with people who were in the helicopter."
"If you're a New Yorker you have a level of PTSD from 9/11 ... so as soon as you hear an aircraft hit a building, I think my mind goes where every New Yorker's mind goes. But there's no indication that that is the case," Cuomo said.
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio also stressed that it appeared to be an accident. "I want to say the most important thing first: There is no indication at this time that this was an act of terror and there is no ongoing threat to New York City based on all the information we have now."
President Trump was briefed on the incident and said: "Phenomenal job by our GREAT First Responders who are currently on the scene."
