TIL - Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify was also CEO of uTorrent

in #todayilearned8 years ago (edited)

I was browsing a cryptocurrency that seemed to have died down, but I liked the idea of it, p2p music streaming platform.

Googling around a bit about it I stumbled upon this article which stated that Spotify were giving up on P2P technology for music streaming and they mentioned how the CEO had also been the CEO of uTorrent, software for downloading and sharing content through torrents. Was this maybe a big reason to Spotify's success? He knew from past experience how easy it was to pirate/copy music, so a music streaming website/platform that required an active subscription for all users to have and made it easy for you to get a hold of all songs became really popular.

Here is a link to the source of that and a link to Daniel Ek's Wiki.

I wonder how long its going to take until someone figures out the killer-app for the music industry combined with blockchain technology to eliminated restrictions and unnecessary fees. Who knows, maybe a Steemian might be the next one to come up with a successful idea. :)

This is new for me, combining music and blockchain platform. Nice!

The technology is new for many! It's going to be exciting to see how it will disrupt current industries.

That would be an interesting development to follow :)
