Early game: Double star characters are paramount. Doesn't matter much if their traits combo nicely. Get at least one tank, one disabler, and one high DPS character. Summoners help a lot at this stage too.
Mid game: Start aligning trait combos.
End game: Start building towards triple star characters and countering the stats of the remaining players.
