Tim Tebow: The Real Reason Many People Do Not Like Him - Christian Persecution and Spiritual Warfare

I ORIGINALLY PENNED THIS IN JANUARY 2012

Several months ago I was watching a panel of "NFL experts" on TV. I do not recall exactly who they were. They were saying really negative things about Tim Tebow's ability to play professional football. One guy said something to the effect "I know he is God fearing and everything...." I continued to see and hear things about Tim that seemed unusually negative and mean spirited. Did anyone else notice this?

After all, Tim is a rookie and as of several months ago, had played very little. I was thinking, my goodness give the guy a chance. They were saying he can't throw, he doesn't belong in the NFL and, many other things. I thought to myself, but wait a minute, didn't this guy lead his college football team, the Florida Gators, to national prominence? They had great win/loss records while he was quarterback in Florida and they went to multiple, "big time", bowl games. I think they won a National Championship with him and as I recall he did win the Heisman Trophy didn't he? The Heisman is for the player that is agreed to be the best per college football. So, how could these NFL experts say he was so bad in light of his mind boggling collegiate achievements and for only being a rookie?

This is when I got hooked on the Tim Tebow phenomenon. I was able to see right away that they were not being fair to him. What was going on?

Well I know what was going on. I converted to Catholicism in 2004 and since then my knowledge of Christ, Christianity, the Bible, etc. has grown tremendously. The real reason Tim was and is being persecuted and mocked is for being a Christian and for expressing his faith.

There have been many rookies who didn't play very well but they didn't get crucified like Tebow was. This made me spiritually support and root for Tim. Now if Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson run their mouth about Allah, Muhammad, Islam etc. that is all fine and good. If Floyd Mayweather runs his big mouth with regularity that is ok. However, if Tim Tebow mentions his faith or is shown praying many gasp and recoil in horror....like vampires exposed to sunlight.

(Keep in mind I wrote this in January 2012) Without going into a lengthy explanation, Tim soon became the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. He soon had them winning. They went through a stretch of winning, I believe, six games in a row; several of them miraculous, overtime thrillers. The Broncos started off horrible and after awhile, with Tim Tebow, they were doing great. The Broncos are very good in other ways too--not just with Tim---to be fair. When Interviewed, Tim always gives credit to his coaches, team members, and others.

There is even more to this though I believe; this is all part of a spiritual war that is going on. Those persecuting him, in my opinion, have little or no faith in the Bible. They were and are therefore ripe to be used as a conduit by negative forces. Nefarious forces use these people to attack Tim and Christianity in general.

"But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ should shine on them." (Holy Bible -- 2 Corinthians 3,4)

If you read the Bible, you will discover how Christians have been persecuted throughout time---simply for their belief in Jesus, the authenticity of the Bible, etc. If you read the Bible and pray to understand you will discover how many Biblical prophecies have come true...exactly as foretold. The mathematical probability of all the fulfilled prophecies being coincidence is in the trillions or higher.

The same people who recoil in horror when Tim mentions Jesus Christ or his faith are generally, the same people who want the word God removed from the pledge of allegiance, want the word God taken off coins, etc. These people throw outrageous tantrums if they see a nativity scene, a crucifix, etc. These same people tend to despise the flag, the idea of The United States as a nation, traditional family and marriage, and all else that is wholesome and good.

Even if Tim had done horrible all season would he deserve to be persecuted like he has? He will continue to be persecuted I guarantee it. When he loses a game or throws an interception some will say "Where is your God now? Tim could end up getting seriously injured or worse and then people will say "Where is your God now?"

Tim is articulate and was an excellent student at Florida. He has also done great things to help poor people in the Philippines.

I am proud of Tim Tebow! I hope readers of this hub will support people, without prejudice, who believe in and express their Christian faith.
