TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT

What is time?

Time is the creation of a timeless God (Ps. 90:4, 1 Pet. 3:8). It is an infinitesimal part of eternity; man is made to be eternal – “also he hath set the world (eternity) in their heart” – Eccl. 3:11.

Man is limited by space and time on earth which is a subset of eternity.

Brevity of man’s life (Ps. 39:4-5; 90:10) challenges us to spend our allotted time well (Ps. 90:12)

Time is given to us to prepare for eternity. For believers, eternal life (eternality with God) is given to us first so we may live out our time wisely.

INSUFFICIENCY OF TIME

There is no sufficient time to accomplish all that your heart desire to do or you are capable of doing. However, God has given you enough time to accomplish His purpose for your life.
Do you know His purpose?

Our dilemma like the children of Israel that while we are wandering in the wilderness of routine and overbooked schedules, we fritter away this precious resource.

In order to recover and move along with God’s purpose; we will need to “redeem” the time (Ephesians. 5:15-17).

VALUE OF TIME

If we understand life’s brevity and place proper value on the time we have (no matter how long or short it is), we will gain a wise heart.

Time is precious, but we do not know yet how precious it really is. We will only know when we are no longer able to take advantage of it….Liberal and generous in every way, God in the wise economy of His providence teaches us how we should be prudent about the proper use of time. He never gives us two moments at the same time. And He never grants us that second moment without holding the third one in His hand, leaving us completely uncertain as to whether we will have it. –Francois Fenelon.

The wisdom is that there should be 2 days in our calendar – this day (today) and that day. We live today in the light of that day. This will influence our work and relationships.

Value is what we do while time management helps identify what matter most and to do it as well as possible.

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT

1. Have a plan and set goals (Pro. 25:2; 16:1,9).

2. Prioritize – scale of value.

3. Cut away unproductive tasks and demands. Don’t be too busy.

4. Delegate or pay for task of little value at a time.

5. Manage your commitment – write them/timetable.

6. Deal with time wasters.

7. Apply the Sabbath principle.

A good man sheweth favor, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion (Ps 112:5)
