Play the infinite GAME

in #time6 years ago

Most companies we see today do not understand this concept. They come in with an amazing product or service and as soon as people start to take interest in them, they start thinking of ways to make huge profits. This is where you will see the quality of their products or services starts to dwindle all in the name of huge profits and in a year or two, they lose their clients or customers.

Have you ever wondered how conglomerates like Apple and Coca cola still stands? Well, I do. To think of how a company can get people so much invested in a box of metal (iPhone) every year. The answer is simple. They play the long game. Their primary focus is to outdo themselves year after year. We all know how iPhone 3s looked like right? Now, if we were to compare today’s iPhone brand with that of 10 years ago, we will notice a huge improvement in design, function, durability and aesthetics. These are things that the company focuses on and this indirectly increases the demand of their product every year.

If you are as driven as I am to start something amazing today, by all means do it with your heart and always make sure not to cut corners in the name of profit. Generations to come will be proud if you play the infinite game and trust me, it will be worth it.

I think founders of today are much more focus on building a product that last longer and provide value to the users. What happens in my view, is the type of investors founders bring on board.

Investors most of the time are money driven, when they invest $1, they are always looking at making 10X+ out of it. Which is okay, but usually they want this so fast that, the entire focus of the business changes to be all about profitability.

We can see typical cases with Steve Jobs, where he had to leave apple. Most founders ends up being kicked out of their companies. The stronger founders are able to leave to start new companies. I think boostrapping is now the way to go.

@kwakumax

Fly by night companies. Some of them create very good products. But because they want to make quick profits they end up compromising quality in order to drive profits high. Their prices also skyrocket to maximize profits and their customers run away.
Profitable and sustainable businesses are built over time. So you must have passion to be in the game and not to aim for short term profits

Hola @kwakumax
Excelente.
Claro que si. Superándose a ellos mismos y apostando a mayor mercado y clientes hacen el juego infinito.
Te mantienes en el mercado y serás líder.

I think this is the problem of most companies here. You're right on point. There are some companies here who make products solely for profits sake. But those are the ones that lose customers. They don't think about their users. Such selfish gain will only last for small time and it'll be gone forever.
