Time is the most Valuable Currency we have

in #time7 years ago

So, you may have noticed that I haven't posted in some time now. Well, it's mostly because of exams, and other things I have to do at the end of the semester. To be honest, most of those things are utterly useless formalities that everyone has to follow in order to pass. And these aren't easy or quick things. Most of those assignments take a lot of time. And then, you submit them to professors who value form over function, and grade people based on their behavior, and not their understanding of the subject.

But regardless, the one thing that truly hurts when I think about it is the sheer amount of time that I have to waste in these things. And Time is I believe, the most important, the most valuable thing we have.

You can never Earn Time. You can only Spend it

Globally, the average life expectancy is approx. 71.5 years. Google says that that's about 626,340 hours. The moment you come out of your mother's womb, that account balance starts dropping literally every hour until it hits zero, and that's when you die.The actual, meaningful amount that you get after you remove the time needed for sleep, food etc. is even lower. The disposable amount of time we have is much less than what most of us think it is.

Of course, you might say, that you use X method to save time, or Y lifestyle to increase your life expectancy. But that is only saving time that you were already going to spend. You aren't ever going to earn more time.

And that, is what makes Time the most valuable currency out there

Most people never really think about time in this way. Indeed, most people don't think about time a lot. That is why, a lot of people go through life, and then wonder where all their time went.

Time actually inflates away it's value too!!

Now, since I called Time a currency, I thought I would carry that analogy further. Something that I only recently have started experiencing and have read about, is this weird thing where the older we get, the faster time seems to go by. When we are younger, a year is a major part of our life. But as we get older, a year becomes a smaller and smaller part of our overall life. It's the same with our experiences in that year. When we are younger, most things are novel, most things are things we have never done before. But as we get older, we inevitably do the same things over and over. This, is why as you get older, the years seem to fly by.

So, as we get older, the value we ascribe to a unit of time actually decreases, even though we have less total time remaining in our lives. It's a very interesting thing that I still don't fully understand.

Most of us will sell our Time for Money

The concept of looking at a job as selling your time for money is something I learned a few years ago, and it completely changed my outlook on life. The only way most of us will earn money is by selling our time. Most young people have more time than money, and hence sell their time for money. You can increase the rate at which you sell your time for by changing jobs, or trying to get promoted. But ultimately, you are still selling your time.

If you truly want to earn more, you have to own something that will make money for you, without your involvement. This can be anything from real estate or gold, to stocks and bonds. And of course, cryptocurrency. Or maybe, it's a business that you founded and own but now is managed by someone else. In short, you have to own assets.I know there are a lot of opinions out there about the effectiveness of various assets, but in this context, their all the same. They will make the same amount of money for you regardless of whether you stay awake and work or remain in your bed throughout the day.

So in conclusion, Time is more scarce than we think it is, because we spend so much of it on things that are very much necessary for our survival.

Well said. And so many of us waste so much time on worrying about things we can't change..... or watching TV :)

yeah. And not just things that are obviously a waste of time. A lot of the time, the things we think of as important aren't really that important in the long run.

That is what I am trying to tell my children - but everyone has to learn their own lessons I guess

this is a good point: most of us will sell our time for money. I think recently that I came to a point where I refuse to do this at someone else's terms. to be trapped into a job i dislike merely for the means to pay rent. it makes me feel like a slave with no way out of the cycle.
