Fix: Invisible Icons on Windows 11 After Sleep

I've been having that problem since the first versions of Windows 11 I installed, a few years ago, so I've decided to share my temporary resolution to this problem.

Here is what I see let's say about the half of the times I wake up my machine after sleep. It doesn't matter I initiated it or it went to sleep after inactivity.

See, the second and the fourth icons are invisible.

Yeah, it is not a critical bug but it is very annoying and I have no idea why Microsoft do not fix it.
This happens only to programs that have been left open before the computer went to sleep mode.

To be honest that may look minor but if it wasn't for the Adobe Lightroom Classic that I use to process my photographs, I would be long migrated everything to Ubuntu!

Yes, I have another machine running Ubuntu 24 with Xfce (Xfce is light and the best for stable remote access to it) and to be honest, I am quite happy with that setup. It does many things much better than Windows, I have awesome access and flexibility but I don't want to run Windows apps in a wrapper, so for the moment Ubuntu can't be my main setup, unfortunately.

I tried to apply all solutions I found online but this is a problem Microsoft admits still exists. Settings changes, Registry changes, nothing helped. I lost quite some time to find a resolution to this nonsense.

So after doing some more research and playing along with AI to save me some times for the dev part of it all, and after some proper testing, here is my final and (hopefully) temporary solution.

One batch file, sitting on my Desktop, that I run whenever I face this issue. (Statistically speaking, every other day, sometimes more frequently :((()

Here is the text content, so you could copy it, if you need it by any chance:

@echo off
echo Restarting Windows Explorer...

:: Kill explorer if it's running
taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F >nul 2>&1

:: Small delay to ensure clean shutdown
timeout /t 1 >nul

:: Start explorer again
start explorer.exe

echo Done.

So whenever I see broken icons, I just start the batch file and in a few seconds all is back to normal...

Have a great day and I hope we don't need this fix at all, soon, however, I have my doubts this is on a short list by Microsoft. Come on!

Qué buena pinta tiene eso. ¿Es difícil de hacer o cualquiera puede animarse?

Please explain to me, how did you manage to read my post just within a few seconds, commented on it and then did the same reading/commenting to another blogger just under one minute for all that?

Wait, right, simply you did not!

This is just a bot that pretends to be a human being to attract followers and votes. I really hate that!

I believe STEEM is a great blockchain for developers but why don't you do something useful and creative with those resources instead of wasting my time? And not just mine, as it seems!!!

Please stay away from my posts or you will attract my downvotes.

Unfortunately such activities seem to be increasing lately, @soulsdetour, @michelangelo3 - I think I've seen you guys running into something similar too? Isn't this gonna push away the real human bloggers from STEEM in the long run? :(

something similar?

God, this is some kind of a plague! I was planning to write a post about this, I really thought I was the only one noticing it - especially in the previous instance, before Michelangelo3 stepped in and others followed his actions.
Yesterday, I even wasted my time replying to one of these bots before realizing what it was actually doing. I feel like I’m under attack by some incurable contagion, my posts have been overrun, and the comments section has been taken over by the poorly written codes of an incredibly primitive machine.
This is disgusting! And I don't know if there's any chance of stopping it. Is there? 🤔
