WHY I LEFT AN EVANGELICAL CULT by DAWN SMITH

In this video presentation, the speaker Dawn Smith delivers her speech on how she left the evangelical cult “ the assembly” started by her dad and her grandfather.

Her dad leads the group and always says and recites and called God as his calling to gather more members to the assembly. Her grandparents, George and Betty were en charge. George was the fantastic public speaker and her father was the elder and her mother the wife. According to her, the assembly targeted college age kid, vulnerable as this was their first time. The assembly always travels anywhere in the States to gather more members.

But there were so many forbidden acts that you must not do. You need to abide what the cult wants you to do. Like women forbidden to do some activities, say cutting women hairs into short, women were never encouraged to do the leadership and sort of all those activities only men has to do it. Women were never permitted to wear make up, etc. Basically the assembly lives in a training home where the assembly, the elderly and their kids live and the cult don’t allow the members to invest outside of the assembly. But because the assembly targeted college age kids, she was able to go to college that was her refuge to escape from the cult.

In the cult, she was able to see her grandparent abusing the women and when she told her father, her father told her he’ll do it but to her surprise they just cover the incident and always her grandparents always abuses all women and always the cult covers it. Her grandparents abusive traits, his being a liars and all the negative of him really made her to leave the cult. She and her sister left the assembly and begun to realize what beauty there is outside of cult where were full of bad memories for them how these cult uses Jesus Christ to make their way. The speaker and her sister now was so happy after they left the cult and they were so free to do whatever they wanted to do on their life, like having their haircut short, painting their nails, wearing clothing of their desires and so on. The freedom they have now opens up their minds and she was so happy of the outcome.
