K-Drama Review: Strong Woman Do Bong-soon

I’ve been addicted to watching K-dramas (slang for Korean shows) lately and I got to say that the Koreans really know how to touch the hearts of their viewers. Whether it is comedy, action or romance, they really set the standards high and harmoniously create a show that is loved by millions all over the world.

With all the K-dramas I had the privileged to watch, one of the best show that pulled the strings in my heart is the latest K-drama of Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-Sik entitled Strong Woman Do Bong-soon.

Synopsis

The K-drama, Strong Woman Do Bong-soon, follows the story of Do Bong-soon who was born with superhuman strength. In her family line, all girls were born with this power. Although this is the case, Do Bong-soon can lose her power if she used it for an evil that’s why she was always careful never to harm other people. This is what happened to her mother who used her power to bully other people.

One day, she saw a bus driver being harassed by a man who works in a construction firm. She called the police but the bad guys threw her phone and harassed her too so she had no choice but to fight. As if luck came her way, Ahn Min-hyuk (Park Hyung-Sik), the CEO of a gaming company Ainsoft, saw the whole scene and hired her as her personal bodyguard. She also dreams of developing a game where she is the main character so this is a good stepping stone for her. Bong-soon also has a crush on In Guk-doo (Ji Soo), a police officer and desperately wants to be a willowy and elegant woman as that what is her crush's type.

A series of kidnapping also created a noise in the district of Do Bong-soon, Dobong-dong. Her best friend became a victim that's why she was determined to capture the culprit. Min-hyuk helped and trained her to control her strength and use it for good. In the end, Min-hyuk and Bong-soon find themselves in a blossoming relationship that everyone is rooting for.

A punch in the ups and downs

The series, Strong Woman Do Bong-soon, can be categorized in light Korean dramas. For the positive side, it can be loved by any viewer - young and old. The chemistry between Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-Sik is inevitable and oozing from the screen. The setting, the cinematography is also very modern that it compliments the story especially having it in a gaming company. More so, the screenplay gives justice to what the show wants to tell the audience and portrays the characters' personalities perfectly.

Of course, there are also some downsides to the series. I didn’t like the ending because I have a strong inclination to mother-children (spoiler alert) bonding. I believed that since her husband is capable of giving the family their wants and needs, Bong-soon should have taken care of her children first before having the mission to save the world. I think they should not have hired a babysitter but personally take care of the children. This really created an impact for me.

The Verdict

A lot can be said with the series but Strong Woman Do Bong-soon is one of the best K-dramas for 2017. What I love about Koreans is that they humorously bring out high-quality series that is for world-class. Although I can’t understand everything they say (good thing for subtitle), I still love watching their shows. With this, I can’t wait to watch more Korean series!
