My first TIL! What the small Steemit logo at the end of the title means ==>steemCreated with Sketch.

in #til8 years ago (edited)

At first I thought someone had come up with an Emoji, I was excited because if you go through my blog you will notice that I like them little things, they are good for expression.

But then I noticed more people using the Steemit Emoji, and what was strange is that it was just one and located at the end of the title.

I was sure there would be some emoji abusers that would even make drawings by placing the icons at a certain separation making pictures.

Today I was playing with the Settings which are a relatively new addition and I wanted to see whether you could add these special characters to the About section, and it turns out you can, but that's when I discovered the Steemit tiny logo wasn't actually an emoji. I must have tried to highlight it in an attempt to copy it like 5 times before I saw its description. If you scroll over the icon it tells you that's a sign of the post rewards going 100% towards your Steem Power balance (voting power) as opposed to the 50/50 default or the decline payout which I am still not sure what it does.

I will come back with another TIL once I know what the decline payout is about or learned anything else that can be summarized like this, unless I am wrong about the PowerUp symbol and in that case the next TIL will hopefully be about how nice the Steemit community is for taking the time to explain it to me.

Thanks, great post. I was just trying to figure this out and did a search and came across your post. Just followed too.

Bitcoin dude! I found you on Steemit! That's awesome! I'm @kirillkich from Tweeter lol

Good to see you on Steemit. Been bumping into a lot of twitter folk on here lately. This platform is really growing. Just followed you, great bumping into you :)

V useful. Thx!

Same here. I searched for "steem logo blog title steemit" and BAM, found the answer :) My first guess was that it symbolized someone had resteemed the article. Then I got suspicious about why all my posts were getting resteemed so quickly. hahaha. I want to "power up" so my votes can give more value back to the community before I take any payouts. So I try to remember to change the payout to "power up 100%" Thanks to those who shared the info!

Thanks for asking the question, I needed to know too, now I know because of your comments!

The decline payout is for when you are posting other people's content and want to be honest that you don't deserve a payout on the post. I imagine it's very underutilized. 😉

Great to know! Thanks!

I've also seen it used by Steemit developers who are whales and don't need/want to earn from their contributions to the platform. For some of them it is literally their job and they are being compensated with salaries.

Means you've decided to take your post in full ( 100 % ) steem power.

Thanks, I found the answer I was seeking! I noticed the logo showing up by my post titles and now I know it's because I changed my payout setting to power up! Looking forward to building SP so my votes will contribute more to the community. Then someday, I'll take some SBDs too :)

Thanks for explaining!!

I see! Couldn't have figured out :p Thanks to your post!

Thanks, following you for more great information! I'm glad I found out why that logo is showing up by my post titles. Once I gain more SP my votes will be worth more than the 0.01 your post got from my upvote :)

Thanks for answer :D !
