The Snake fruit may restore fertility- TIL

in #til8 years ago (edited)

Salak is a species of palm tree and the fruits are growing in clusters at the base of the tree. This fruit is native in Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. The size and shape of this fruit is like a fig and is covered with a scaly skin (that's the reason why it is called the snake fruit).

The smell is similar to that of chestnuts and sometimes it even smells like coffee. It tastes sweet and is slightly acidic with a texture similar to an apple. The snake fruit can be eaten with fish, chicken or pork. From this fruit you can prepare oil, wine and is often used in the preparation of cider.

To have a pleasant aroma, the fruit must have a darker color as possible. The best way to eat these fruits is immediately after you purchase them and after that, you have to put them in a cold place.

Salak palm trees are growing up in marsh areas and reaches up to 35 meters high.

The benefits of this fruit

It is rich in

  • antioxidants
  • vitamins C and B6
  • tannins
  • protein
  • iron
  • phosphorus
  • calcium
  • beta-carotene
  • fiber

It soothes stomach pains and the oil made from this fruit treats the sun burns and it also stops the UV rays to get into the skin. It helps in the treatment of hemorrhoids, provides extra energy, elasticity and it makes the skin more beautiful.

Salak contains high levels of phytoestrogens and because of that it helps women to develop better forms of their body. In the area of Amazon, this fruit is consumed in larger quantities by menopausal women and by men to restore fertility.

Snake fruit contains higher amounts of beta-carotene than other fruits like: mango, watermelon, guava and carrot. In combination with honey it treats indigestion and constipation.

Because of its benefits on the human body it has been called "the fruit of memory".
