If the sun would generate a supernova explosion, Terra would be a spacecraft that would carry live with a speed of 108,000 km / hour
The sun is just one of 100 billion stars in our galaxy and it's in the center of our Solar System. If the sun will explode, will be needed 8 minutes and 20 seconds to realize that. Basically, we could look and see the sun, even if it's not there. First, people would be confused and panicked.
The strange thing is that the planets from the Solar System would keep reflecting sunlight toward us, because they are further away, and the light needs more time to reach them and then to us.
Without sunlight, the universe would become our only source of light. The process of photosynthesis would stop immediately and 99.9% of productivity on Earth is made by photosynthesis. This process allows the planets to absorb carbon dioxide and to eliminate oxygen.
We will not remain without oxygen because Earth's atmosphere contains 1 quintillion kg of oxygen (1.000.000.000.000.000.000) and the entire biosphere requires 6 trillion kg of oxygen per year. It would take 1,000 years to consume all the oxygen.
What about the temperature?
After the first week, average temperatures will reach 0 degrees and will reach - 73 degrees in a year. After 2-3 years after the disappearance of the Sun, the oceans would freeze. Terra would be a spacecraft that would carry live with a speed of 108,000 km / hour.
Sun's mass is insufficient to generate a supernova explosion, instead, in 4-5 billion years, it will enter in the red giant phase.
