As a bachelor I do think about what would do if i suddenly found myself choking and no one was around to help. I have a couple close calls eating popcorn of course. I've heard people say ram your stomach against a table or punch yourself in the gut. These methods sound sufficient but in all probability one panicking would not be able to do those ways.
Here is a fireman's trick that will work for many people should you find yourself with something lodged in your throat.
Jeff Rehmen a Fireman teaches us a technique you won't regret learning right now.
video is a short 1:50
Try and practice it at least once.
#pleasedontdie is a nice tag too.
thanks. lol
thanks so much for this very helpful information!!
There have been 2 moments in my life where I thought I was about to die because of choking.
The first one was at work during coffee break, I was late to it so remained for another 5 minutes after the rest had left to finish off my coffee.
Being young and bored I decided to take a sugar cube and place it in my mouth, I must've accidentally breathed some of it in cause next thing I know I can't breath in. Breathing out worked but not in. Panic ensued, looked at coffee cup, emtpy. More panic. Had there not been a water crane (not sure that's the word) in the same room I had probably died there. I quickly went and drank water and it let me be able to breathe again.
2nd time felt worse because I felt even more helpless that time as I was out for a walk when suddenly my spit felt weird and when I tried to swallow I noticed how I couldn't breathe in anymore. What was amazing that time was how my body reacted to it, it understood the sense of panic I got and within seconds when I was trying to swallow but couldn't, it filled my mouth with saliva which lead to a successful swallow and I was able to breathe again.
Sure is scary though how it can just randomly happen any time. This is why I always eat slowly and carefully. :P
omg that's scary. I can relate to both of those experiences. Once was chocolate as I was dozing off on the sofa and it melting into my lungs. >< I coughed it up.
People don't think about choking enough. Another reason people shouldn't live a lone. But love living alone.
Excellent post and very helpful information.
