TIL: There Is A Hallucinogenic I Never Heard Of…

in #til8 years ago

Today I learned.., that new hallucinogenic I never heard of… Well, actually it's not new at all -- it is quite old. As a matter of fact, one of the first known cases of it's effects dates back to 400 B.C. -- I guess that qualifies, as not new…

A Greek army was marching throughout the Black Sea region and noticed there was an abundance of honey -- so they started to chow-down. They guzzled it up.., and all of a sudden the began to stagger and act like drunk psychos. They started to puke and shit all over the place… And then, they all started to collapse -- leading to there defeat.

What they didn't know was -- this particular honey came from the nectar of the rhododendron flowers. A beautiful pink flower that comes from very remote areas Of the Black Sea in Turkey. In Nepal, people risk their lives trying to gather this honey from the cliffs where giant honey bees nest because it is very hard to get and can cost up to $166 a pound.

Rhododendron flowers contain grayanotoxin, a neurotoxin that produces hallucinogenic effects when eaten… When the bees pollinate in these rhododendron flowers.., it creates the hallucinogenic toxin.

Known as "mad honey" in low (very low) doses some can be used medicinally. While death is quite rare, if too much is taken it can produce, blurred vision, numbness, seizures.., and yes -- hallucinations!

So, the next time you are about to plop that teaspoon of honey in your tea or slobber it on your toast.., you might want to read the label and make sure there are no poisonous toxins in your sweetener of choice… CHEERS!

P.S.,
Do yourself a favor and stick to mushrooms for a good trip!
