[TIL] 👣 Finding my Way Just Watching the Sun 🌅

in #til8 years ago (edited)

Today's lesson has been very important to me and it is sure to be very important to you. I learned that it is possible to orient yourself in the forest, in the sea, on the road or even in the city just by observing the position of the sun for this.

This teaching is of great value to anyone who travels to a strange location or to explorers and adventurers who carry out activities in regions with dense, snowy or desert vegetation where it is usually very difficult to get guidance on the unique characteristics of the environment.

As we know, the planet earth is divided into two hemispheres (north and south). Each with its weather stations that interfere with position and sun exposure during the day.

Art of my own

In the Northern Hemisphere, at 6:00 A.M, the sun is in the east position at 9:00 A.M is southeast, at 6:00 P.M. is to the west. Attention: During winter in the northern hemisphere, the sun sets before 18:00 P.M, but has not yet reached the west when setting.

In the Southern Hemisphere, at 6:00 A.M, the sun is at the east, at 9:00 A.M it is at the northeast, at noon (12:00) it is at the north, at 15:00 P.M it is at the northwest and at 18:00 P.M is in the west.

Understanding the relationship of the position of the sun with the cardinal points, we can now understand more easily how to guide us if we have nothing to help us find our way in an unknown place.

Thank you very much @virtualgrowth :)

Great post don't forget that at night we can even use the stars to orient us. In the Northern Skies we can see things like the Big Dipper, Casiopia which both circle the north star. In the southern skies there is the Southern Cross.

Yeah, this is true @smysullivan. Thanks for your contribution friend. :)

Very nice post :) Thank you for sharing.
