TIL that Tom Brady really is a god...

in #til9 years ago

In case any of you missed it (not likely), or didn't hear about it this morning (even less likely), Tom Brady did what no other human being playing the quarter back position has done, ever. He won the Super Bowl for the 5 time in his professional career. Breaking the tie he previously held with Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw (4 each).

That would make him the all time winning-est quarterback in Super Bowl history.

Here is a chart showing some of the other notable quarterbacks and their Super Bowl victories, as well as league MVP's thrown in for good measure.

As you can see, Brady is now the most decorated QB in NFL history (tied with Manning). If there was ever any debate before as to who was the best QB of all time (there wasn't), but now at least you can use statistics to back it up.

Back to the Super Bowl...

What makes this game so special is not just that he won it, but how he won it. Tom Brady rallied his team from 25 points down to eventually win the game, which would make it his biggest comeback win ever in is professional career (the previous largest deficit he overcame was 24 points in a regular season game).

To further put this comeback in perspective, the largest comeback win ever before this one in a Super Bowl was just 10 points. Also, no team in NFL history has ever come back when trailing by 16 points or more in the 4th quarter of any playoff game, ever, let alone the Super Bowl. The Patriots trailed by 19 points to start the 4th and ended up winning the game...

Let's take a look at some of the records broken by Tom Brady last night:

  • Most Super Bowl games played (7)
  • Most yards ever (466)
  • Most completions ever (43)
  • Most passing attempts ever (62)
  • Most Super Bowl games won by a quarterback (5)

Taking all of this in, I think this one sentence sums up just how unbelievable the game was;

"The Patriots won the game despite never leading at any point during regulation..."

Let that sink in for a bit.

I know this was linked above (I wanted it in the thumbnail), but I think it is safe to say that there may never be a more appropriate time to wear this jersey:

Hope you enjoyed the game and didn't turn it off too early ;)

Live well my friends!

That is awesome!!!

Haha thanks!

That was an amazing game. As lopsided as the score was early on, I know that none of us truly counted them out. And he proved why.

Yep, I was trying to make a bet at half time that New England would win... but I wanted odds... like 4 to 1 lol. No one would bite...

That game was AMAZING! I am surprised the roof of my house is still attached after the mayhem of shouting and cheering from my rowdy bunch! I am a typical girl who does not generally get ecstatic over football, but last night converted me LOL (It helps that I won fifty bucks, haha)

Haha yes winning money will do that to you! My stepson and significant other won all the money at our little get together...

How funny, it was myself and my step-son that raked in the most too, ha! My husband intentionally bets the opposite of me...always to his detriment, haha!

Haha I do that to my gf as well... Except I usually win :)

I say it's pure skill of course, though really it's Lady Luck favoring me Ha! ;)

Brady is great, but without all those years of being behind one of the best offensive lines, always having good route running receivers with great hands, having a genius offensive coordinator and perhaps the best head coach that the NFL has ever seen, I don't think his numbers would be anywhere near where they are today. He has always had a very gifted team and staff around him, which has expertly crafted the game-plans to always highlight his many strengths and to work around his weaknesses (for instance, he's not known as the best QB when under pressure), to keep him performing consistently at a high level.

Don't get me wrong, he's easily a top 10 QB, all-time, probably even top 5, but I'm not convinced that other super-elite level QB's, past and present, wouldn't do as well, or better with that team and staff around them - Peyton Manning comes to mind, here.

As far as current QB's go, I think there's a good chance that Russel Wilson will make a run at some of Brady's playoff and super-bowl stats (records). He's another VERY gifted and determined QB with the fortune of being on a team with a strong core of elite athletes and elite level coaching/ front office (GM). The ONLY thing that Wilson is missing to make the Seahawks the next dynasty, IMO, is a decent offensive line. Even an average offensive line would be enough to make Seattle's offense a beast, IMO. Just look what the Seahawks accomplished having Wilson call the game with a severely injured knee for more than three-fourths of the season, behind one of the statistically worst O-lines in the NFL.

It's only because of one freak play in the Seahawks' last meeting with the Patriots in the Superbowl (49) that Wilson doesn't already have two super-bowl trophies and Brady doesn't have four right now. Regardless, Wilson is still young and getting better with every year. I can definitely see him pulling off 3 or 4 more super-bowl wins over the next 10 to 12 years, especially if his O-Line gets stronger within the next couple of years.

Some good points there... there is one more that you didn't mention that I would like to add...

"opportunity"

If Bledsoe never goes down with that knee injury Brady likely doesn't see the field till years later, if ever. Opportunity is one of the biggest determinants of whether a player is successful or not, unfortunately there are far too many players that really never get their fair shot.

Thanks for reading and bringing up some great points! :)

Indeed. Blessed are the few who get a crack at the big show!

Thanks for the compliment and for being a good sport :)

You got it. Who is your team? Regarding favorite quarterbacks... I actually have a bias towards Drew Brees but he is not even on the list :)

I'm a Hawks fan. I suppose that puts my first comment in a rather different light ;)

Love Drew Brees!

I suspected as much ;)

Fourth quarter . Falcons had the ball. I said "they need to score one more touchdown to put this game in the bag." That never happened. :-(

Yep, and when Atlanta was driving late in the 4th, inside the 40. I turned to my dad and said you know, a FG here wins the game for Atlanta... a giant sack later and incomplete pass and FG was no longer an option. Crazy how things work out sometimes. :)

I don't understand American Football and even I know his name now!

Well there you go! The world now knows his name!

Yes also this Superbowl was broadcast live on BBC sports radio it seems American Football is getting more popular over here.

Nice post. I am new Steemit user.
