TIL that stealing soap does not guarantee a clean getaway!

in #til8 years ago

At some point in my life I have heard that twins share a strong bond, often able to communicate with one another without saying a single word. Well, that would have come in handy for two twins from Atlantic City, New Jersey who were caught stealing soap the other day.

Twin brothers (Kenny and Lenny Stewart) stole 180 bars of soap (30 6-packs of dove soap) from a local super market and tried to make "a clean getaway". However, things would quickly get "messy" for them as they tried to run around a trash can and out the door. With one twin holding one handle of the bag and the other twin holding the other handle of the bag, they simply ran straight into the trash can, knocking it over, and sending both men to the ground.

One would think that when it became apparent that the trash can would be in their direct line of escape they would act quickly and decide which side of the trash can they would chose to go around so they don't run into the darn thing. That would require some quick communication between the twins, which you would think would be no problem considering they are, well, twins... but alas, they didn't, and it was.

The twins quickly sprung to their feet after the can took them down and continued fleeing the scene with grocery store employees now in hot pursuit. It appeared like they were making their getaway as they were fleeing through the parking lot until a shopping cart did a quick trash can impersonation and again dropped them to the ground as they weren't able to navigate around it while hanging on to their prized soap.

But again, these brilliant thieves pressed onward...

Both sprang to their feet and attempted one last dash through the parking lot and then around the corner of some buildings on the side of the parking lot. This would have been their escape had they not run smack dab into the chest of a police officer as they rounded the corner, who just so happened to be investigating a minor traffic accident in the parking lot. The police officer was able to corral both men and place them under arrest for shoplifting.

(security camera caught one of them as the police officer was corralling them)

It remains to be seen what kind of punishment awaits these guys, but one thing is for sure... there was no clean getaway for these dirty soap thieves!

Let the puns begin and live well my friends!

These guys deserve an award for being stupidest criminals. Who the hell steals soap and then gets outsmarted by a bin?

That is a very good question! I think we know a couple guys that might fit that description! ;)

Wow, good story. This is a step or two above most of the 'knuckleheads in the news' items. Some advance planning usually helps, but there's also the matter of executing the plan well.

Thank you @donkeypong! I couldn't believe this really happened when I heard about it on the radio...

Soap has poor price to weight ratio. Why would anyone steal soap...

Haha that is a great question! Maybe they were trying to make a bomb?! Ever seen the movie "Fight Club"?! ;)
