Today I Learned How to Improvise a Boot Lace
A broken boot lace is a bother, especially when no spare laces are on hand and that specific pair of boots is needed immediately. Luckily for me, inspiration struck and I thought of using zip ties. Thanks for the bonus freebie, Harbor Freight!
As you can see, the zip ties work nicely, and since this pair is a side-zip design, the boot can even be removed without having to cut the ties! Even if your boot isn't designed that way, it's a 10¢ solution that can get you through the day anyway.
The boots are cheap. The brand is Response Gear, and they're a decent value at $30/pair. The seams along the soles usually wear out within a year, and the laces don't even last that long despite being a side zip design that doesn't require daily lacing. But if you're doing something that requires a lightweight boot, or need a relatively disposable pair of boots that you don't mind trashing, they're just the ticket. That laces-wearing-out thing is a problem, though... You'd think I'd eventually learn to buy extra laces...
Nice bootstrap hack!
Clever improvisation! Well done!
Might I suggest, for the next pair, leather laces...? You might get a bit more mileage out them. Save the laces that came with the boots for future emergencies.
